The Story
A threshold is not a doorway. It’s a moment of decision — when preparation gives way to presence. El Refugio was conceived in that space: where form is still quiet and intention is already clear.
In the city, the boot stands its ground against stone and shadow. On terraces at dusk, the Taupe tones catch light without asking for attention. We selected Premium Nubuck for its incredible matte finish — a top-grain hide sanded to a velvet perfection that carries the strength of full-grain leather.
True luxury is claimed, not crossed loudly.
Design Notes
Materials
- Vamp: Premium Taupe Nubuck Leather. Hand-buffed to create a slight, directional nap that responds to touch.
- Lining: Smooth calfskin lining for breathable comfort and a refined interior feel.
- Sole: Engineered rubber outsole selected for superior traction across city stone and uneven ground.
- Heel: Low walking heel — stable, walkable, and proportioned for a grounded stance.
Signature Details
- Symmetric Entry: Dual industrial-grade zippers for an effortless on/off ritual and a clean, architectural silhouette.
- The Toe: Refined Western Square Toe that sharpens the profile without exaggeration.
- Finish: Matte Taupe tones that record movement, held in a disciplined structure.
Wearing Experience
- The Fit: Crafted on an atelier-specific last. Most clients take their usual US size. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, we recommend sizing up by half.
- Break-in: Typically 1–2 wears; the premium Nubuck softens beautifully and settles to your stride.
- Care: Wipe dust dry; condition sparingly with a specialized Nubuck brush to preserve the velvet aesthetic.
The Mark of Craftsmanship
Luxury here is discipline: balanced proportions, intentional contrast, and finishing that respects the material’s origin. Variations in grain and tone are not flaws — they are signatures of authenticity.
Design Inspiration
Architecture at dusk. Water held in form. A man who doesn’t announce his arrival — he crosses the line and lets the room recalibrate.
He enters without noise. Everything adjusts.

FAQ
Is Nubuck as durable as leather?
Yes. Because Nubuck is created from the top grain of the hide, it retains significantly more strength and durability than suede, which is made from the inner split.
Will the zippers last?
We use heavy-duty industrial zippers designed for long-term structure and a smooth ritual of use.
Is this boot suited for formal wear?
While designed for the City & Field Series, the refined toe and disciplined profile allow it to transition seamlessly to smart-casual and professional settings.
